Lung Disease & Conditions
Lung disease refers to disorders that affect the lungs - the organs that allow us to breathe. Breathing problems caused by lung disease may prevent the body from getting enough oxygen. Examples of lung diseases include:
- Asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or COPD
- Infections, such as tuberculosis, influenza and pneumonia
- Pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and many other interstitial lung diseases
When you breathe, the lungs take in oxygen from the air and deliver it to the bloodstream. People with lung disease are not able to breathe properly and therefore often have difficulty accomplishing day-to-day tasks.
From prevention to self-help programs and services, Healthy Lungs Pennsylvania provides local residents with a number of resources to help ensure that each breath taken is smarter, and not harder.
