Why Give?

For over 110 years, our organization has been giving back to the southwestern Pennsylvania community. As the only locally-focused lung health non-profit in our region, we have reinvented our organization as the needs of the community and lung disease prevention and education have evolved.

From our beginnings as the Pittsburgh Sanatorium, known as the “House on the Hill” on Bedford Ave., we provided tuberculosis treatment to those afflicted in our region. Over the years, we have transitioned into a regional leader by providing southwestern Pennsylvanians with the tools and knowledge to become advocates for their own lung health. We provide a continuum of care through our continually expanding programs and services, and by encouraging the community to breathe better and smarter.

Today, we provide pediatric and adult asthma education and patient assistance, COPD support and outreach, tuberculosis education and smoking cessation to residents in the following 10 counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland. All of our programs are independently monitored and measured to ensure their effectiveness while providing the region with what it needs.

Most importantly, we could not do any of this without your support.

Whether it is providing cold weather masks free of charge to COPD patients and the elderly during the winter months, helping local families with patient assistance, providing inhalers and nebulizers to school districts, facilitating teen smoking cessation, or serving as a trusted resource for local lung health related issues, none of it would be possible without you.

Please join us this year as we continue our mission to help western Pennsylvanians breathe better and live healthier. HealthyLungs empowers individuals through awareness, education, and direct services.
