Patient Assistance
As part of our commitment to helping people with lung disease, HealthyLungs offers a patient assistance program for respiratory patients with an immediate need for medication, pulmonary rehabilitation or an air-conditioned environment.
Some of the assistance provided through the program includes:
MEDICATION – HealthyLungs will pay (to pharmacy only) up to $300 per patient per month for respiratory medications. The assistance period lasts for a maximum of three months, and the patient must reapply each month. The patient’s physician must try to find a suitable replacement for medications off formulary before the pharmacy is reimbursed. The patient will be notified when medication is being sent.
AIR CONDITIONERS – A single-room window air conditioner is provided through referral from a physician’s office or a program that can verify a patient’s diagnosis, such as a day care center, pulmonary rehab or school.
PULMONARY REHAB – HealthyLungs will negotiate with the rehab facility for the terms of payment of the patient’s co-pay for up to six weeks of rehab (at three sessions/per week/per patient) or $100, whichever comes first and/or maintenance program. HealthyLungs may pay up to three months per patient for maintenance treatments.
SPACERS AND PEAK FLOW METERS – Free spacers and peak flow meters will be provided to patients; however, these will only be provided after the patient completes an education session with HealthyLungs, lasting approximately one hour. A prescription must be provided to HealthyLungs for the spacer, but is not required for a peak flow meter.
TABLETOP NEBULIZERS –If a patient’s nebulizer isn’t covered by insurance, it may be provided by HealthyLungs with a prescription. Before delivery of a tabletop nebulizer, patients are required to receive proper instruction on use from HealthyLungs staff or a referring office employee, as previously agreed upon.
PORTABLE NEBULIZERS – Portable nebulizers can be provided only to ventilator patients (or with approval from HealthyLungs Clinical Director) for traveling purposes, and come with two nebulizer kits and a power cord, carrying bag and car charger.
Before HealthyLungs can assist a patient, the following qualifications must be met:
- The patient must have a respiratory diagnosis confirmed by a physician, case worker, discharge planner, etc., who has agreed to work with HealthyLungs.
- All referrals must originate from the physician, hospital, rehab facility, or other source where the diagnosis can be confirmed. Patients can’t begin the application process on their own.
All referrals will be treated on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of HealthyLungs Clinical Director.
