Education for Students with Asthma Program

Through school nurses, HealthyLungs provides two free one-hour asthma educational training sessions to students grades K-12. Parents are invited to attend.

Students learn the basics about the respiratory system, as well as the early warning signs, triggers and medications involved with asthma. A HealthyLungs representative will educate students on how to properly use a peak flow meter and a spacer with an inhaler. Students in the session for middle school and high school students are guided through the “Strategize and Be Asthma-Wize” worksheet to prepare for independent living after high school graduation.

Permission forms are required for each student participating in the program:

Elementary School

Middle School/High School

All students in attendance receive a peak flow meter and a spacer. Three months after the original educational training, a HealthyLungs representative will return to the school to check on student progress and answer additional questions.
